The Heritage of Words - Grandmother - Summary - Grade XII

Nostalgia is the main theme of the poem Grandmother. In this poem the poet remembers his dead grandmother and writes about her. He draws a picture of his grandmother- all loving and inspiring. This poem presents the poets deep sense of intimacy and closeness to his grandmother even after her death. He can not forget her. He could recognize her by all senses except taste. The poet uses different images to draw the picture of his grandmother. 'Purple scarf ' and 'plastic shopping bag' is related to eyes, while the touch of ‘warm and damp’ hands appeals to skin or touch. A 'voice coming from a rock' is related to the sense of hearing; and her hands like that of 'roots' appeal to the sense of smell. The poet says that he could recognize his grandmother If he could see her face from a distance, from a mile away. He would quickly know that it was his grandmother with the purple scarf and plastic shopping bag. If he could feel hands on his head, he would know...

Physics: Simple Harmonic Motion - SHM

Simple Harmonic Motion(SHM) What is Periodic motion? The motion which repeats itself after equal intervals of time is called periodic motion . For example: the motion of planets and satellites, vibration of springs, motion of pendulum, motion of different hands in watch etc. What is Simple Harmonic Motion? The periodic motion in which particle moves to and fro (back and forth) such that the acceleration of the particle is directly proportional to the displacement from mean position and directed towards the mean position is called simple harmonic motion. i.e. for SHM, a ∝ y ( where y is the displacement from mean position) or, a = −ky ..........................(i) (Where, k is proportionality constant. Negative sign shows that the acceleration opposes the displacement from mean position.) SHM in terms of uniform circular motion(Characteristics of SHM): Equation of SHM: Consider a particle moving in a circular orbit having centre at O and radius r with uniform angular velocity ω. Let P...

On The Vanity Of Earthly Greatness

On The Vanity Of Earthly Greatness - Arthur Guiterman The poem “On The Vanity of Earthly Greatness” was composed by American poet and journalist Arthur Guiterman. In this poem, the poet shows how the greatness of the world is valueless. The tusk of an elephant which we used as a weapon in a battle has become billiard balls. The sword of Charle Magne just has become useless after his death and is rusted. The grizzly bear that used to terrify everyone with its powerful embrace has become a rug. Julius Caesar, the greatest statesman and army general of Rome has been reduced to a bust and is on the shelf. The poet himself doesn’t feel very well after his death and is also going to meet the fate of Julius Caesar. In this poem, the poet is trying to say that every living being and nonliving things lose its value, power, and greatness. Therefore the greatness we want to have in this world is also valueless because it too passes away sooner or later.

One reason for the difference is the chemicals cost much more than unpurified blocks of chemicals. However, even if the author bought all the chemicals, he knows he would not have a human make up the human body. Even if he could do this, the result would not act, make love or complain likes a human being. It becomes clears to the author that human being does not have a cost they are priceless. An important idea in this essay is that some t things are worth more than...
